It might be a good idea to include a full stylesheet and source document.
You're clearly making some basic mistakes, but I can't tell what they are
from the information provided. (Sorry if you provided it earlier in the
thread.)

I did include <xsl:apply-templates/> as follows, but it does
not yield
the 'drillOutDir' node in the output xml.
