Re: testing for presence of a variable

2005-05-06 16:22:08

Is there a way I can condition a variable on the presence (or absence)
of another variable?

no, variables denote values so you can't reference an undeclared
variable. There is never any need. Just declare the variable chapter
with definition / (your suggested default was the empty sequence but I
suspect that you meant / as otherwise paths starting at $root-node would
all be empty) so that it can be used stand-alone, and when you
import this styleshete into another styleshete the importing stylesheet
can supply a non empty definition that will have higher import
precedence.
