[xsl] xml diff question

2006-04-18 23:34:31

Hi,
I was checking out the tools that were available to compare xml
files and got diffxml from sourceforge. A recent post on this list pointed
me to diffmk which I have got working after some tweaking.

Both diffxml and diffmk do the differencing well but IMHO the output
generated by diffmk is slightly more readable than diffxml's. Of course
this may not mean that the quality of the result is necessarily better.

The question I have is this and may not be entirely an xslt question:

What's the best way to display the differences. Norm has provided a
stylesheet that marks up the differences with tags having ids so a css
stylesheet can be added later on to display them in a different style.
However, when I ran that stylesheet and tried to view in the browser, all I
get is text content of the tags. If I set the output of my transformation
to be xml, then the tags I added for marking up the differences also get
displayed which may not be desirable.

Does this mean I need to find some way to display the xml and at the same
time not display the extra tags. Can someone shed more light on this
matter.

Regards,
prakash
