Is there a common way to describe graphs in XML ?
There are:
the Graph Markup Language (GML)
http://infosun.fmi.uni-passau.de/Graphlet/GML/
and
the XGMML (eXtensible Graph Markup and Modeling Language)
http://www.cs.rpi.edu/~puninj/XGMML/
Do you know XSL
stylesheets to work on a such representation ?
