You mentioned attribute sets are rarely used. What would be
the preferred alternative?
I wouldn't at all disparage use of attribute sets: I just observe that not
many people seem to find them useful, or simply find that they are a feature
they can manage without.
For most simple uses of attribute sets, they're just a minor syntactic
convenience over calling a named template that creates the required
attributes.
