Given that I can't dynamically define a key, is there a way for me to
google for muenchian grouping, or see Jeni's site

To do nested grouping you need to generate key values that are unique to
the scope that you wish, so for example if you use a key of
concat(generate-id(..),'|',@name)
then any elements which are not siblings will not be grouped together,
even if they have the same name attribute.
