The next Saxon-SA release includes the ability to output a processed schema
in XML form, where the XML form corresponds closely to the "schema
components" described in the XSDL specification. Working from this form
should be much easier than working from raw schema documents. If you follow
the Saxon list, a beta-release (with very limited testing) has been
announced there, so you could give it a try now.
