Is is possible at the same time when we are applying
template for "seealso"
no, assuming a default apply-templates walk over the input tree, the
text node before the seealso node will be processed independentantly
(and probably before) the seealso node.
Just add a template something like
<xsl:template match="text()[following-sibling::*[1][self::seealso]]">
<xsl:value-of select="replace(.,'\( *$','')"/>
</xsl:template>
