Just having one picture to render this rather than 3 would have alot
of benefits for our system.

if you need to do this alot (and are using xpath from xquery or xslt)
you can just define a function that does this, so even if you use this
construct many tines, it doesn't really matter how many calls to a
format-datetime it takes to get the layout that you need.
