Possibly later I'll replace the BAT with Java or Javascript
(if security permits). I guess then the Java should take care of the
(temporary) renaming. I don't find the solution elegant though.
But it's the best way of ensuring that if the transformation fails for any
reason, the relevant file is not corrupted.
