Re: [xsl] Update Available for Intel SOA Expressway XSLT 2.0 Processor

2010-01-26 11:06:16
Abel,

Thank you for your interest and your questions. My replies are in line with
your questions below.

An interesting development. It was only recently and after quite some
effort that I found out (with the help of this list) that Intel was
working on an XSLT 2.0 processor. What is the compliance level you are
after? Is it supposed to become an SA processor, or do you plan to stick
with Basic conformance yet? Do you have some kind of timeline available?

Currently we plan to release at the Basic conformance level. Because the
processor is part of SOA Expressway and is intended to satisfy market demands
for that product, we will support the Schema aware features as our customers
and the market demand it. I can't say when we'd actually release a Schema
aware version, so I can't give you a timeline at the present time.

And, most important of all: do you plan on keeping it generally (free /
paid) available to the public, or will it be locked in SOA Expressway
after the beta is over? If you choose to have it generally available,
will it receive a programmable interface (other than commandline)?

We plan to keep the executable program version available for some time on
WhatIf.intel.com, at least through the initial release version and possibly
well beyond that. The processor will be officially released and supported only
bundled with SOA Expressway. No library release is planned right now, and I
personally believe such a release would require very high interest and a
compelling business case.

That said, getting feedback, seeing what the market is interested in, and
looking for new opportunities is what the What If program is all about. I hope
you do download the product and let us know what you think.
