For some reason, Chrome does not want to display XML correctly

isn't that the expected behaviour?

If you want an html renderer such as a browser to render anything
other than plane text you need to give it a format it knows (htnl or
svg, but not arbitrary xml)

Well, Firefox can show arbitrary XML when you give CSS for all used elements.
