I need a parameter or a variable which depends on the two values because with
the value of the variable
I can decide how many articles are placed on a page.
I want to convert this site (http://www.tamarawobben.nl) a xml/xslt site.
As you can see here (http://www.tamarawobben.nl/?c=1e-levensjaar&month=2005-09)
a month can have big articles and later on see here
(http://www.tamarawobben.nl/?month=2005-09&pg=15 ) some little articles. And I
want to have each page about the same amount of text.
Also there are months like this one
(http://www.tamarawobben.nl/?c=zwanger&month=2005-06_) with a few small
articles.

What im trying is to declare a variable/parameter which value depends on

declaring a variable is done with xsl:variable so probably you want
<xsl:variable name="xxx">
<xsl:choose>
......
But really you haven't given much indication of your problem. Why do you
need a variable at all?
