Many implementations support the math extensions defined at www.exslt.org. If
yours doesn't, you could:
(a) call out to another programming language (depends on the processor you are
using)
(b) use Dimitre Novatchev's FXSL library which I believe includes an
implementation of sqrt() written in pure XSLT.
