Following just a week after the XSLT 3.0 Candidate Recommendation from W3C, we
are delighted to announce the release today of Saxon 9.7.
Saxon-EE is a virtually complete implementation of XSLT 3.0. As well as further
advances on the streaming front, and a quiet but steady advance in
multi-threading capability, its biggest new feature is support for separate
compilation and distribution of stylesheet packages. Packages offer significant
software engineering benefits for anyone developing a large XSLT-based
application. We can now offer the capability to develop stylesheets that
incorporate features like schema-awareness and streaming, so developers can
ship these in compiled form with an embedded license to end users who can run
the stylesheet without acquiring their own license. We can also do the same for
schemas. (Commercial terms to be announced.)
9.7 also includes a complete implementation of XPath 3.1 and XQuery 3.1. In
fact, it implements new features in these specs that W3C haven't yet published.
Many of the new features including maps and arrays are in the open-source HE
product, though for higher-order functions you need to move to the Professional
Edition.
