Hello fetchmail-friends,
I would like to know if anyone has found a way to remove oversized
mails left on the server if a limit is specified in fetchmails
configuration.
Problem is this:
We have some servers that fetch their mail with fetchmail and
deliver it locally to postfix. Their means of connection to the
internet vary from isdn to adsl.
Postfix has a message size limit of 10 Mb.
If fetchmail is not configured with a "limit" it downloads the
message, which gets bounced by postfix. That's okay, but the problem
is that fetchmail does get the message. Over a slow line it is
annoying that if the mail is fetched anyway, it still gets bounced.
(I should say: it is annoying that if a mail is going to be bounced,
we're still fetching it.) If fetchmail is configured with a limit
however, it skips the mail, just like we want it to.
The problem is that these oversized mails remain on the server, and
i want to have them bounced or removed without downloading them.
We may need to use a program that periodically lists the emails on
the server, checks for oversized messages, and deletes those,
sending a custom error message to the originator.
I hoped however that someone has had this problem before and has
found a solution for it that doesn't involve custom programming.
Ideas anyone?
Regards,
rolek
