Noticed that overnight fetchmail had not retrieved any messages from one
ISP's POP3 server. A check of maillog showed that the last activity was
its writing the status message "timeout after 300 seconds waiting for
server pop3...". Further investigation shows that this can happen once or
twice a day (and in the same daemon session.) But on this last occasion
fetchmail hadn't retried in some 10 hours. Killed the daemon process and
restarted and mail flooded in.
Is this a known problem or just a temporary glitch?
This is fetchmail release 5.9.6+RPA+SDPS+NLS
The .fetchmailrc file is simple and hasn't been touched for weeks. Only
request in it so far looks like this:
poll pop3.demon.co.uk proto pop3 aka mailstore no dns:
localdomains suneidesis.demon.co.uk suneidesis.com
user suneidesis is * with password "********************" fetchall
I start fetchmail in daemon mode with an interval of 300 (i.e. every 5
minutes). Works for weeks without failing.
