                                 You want "fetchmail -V"?

# Configuration created Tue Apr 2 11:41:38 2002 by fetchmailconf
set postmaster "gerrit"
set bouncemail
set spambounce
set properties ""
set daemon 120
set invisible
poll mail.server.de with proto POP3
user 'gerrit.blahblah' there with password 'blahblah' is gerrit(_at_)blah(_dot_)bla here
        options fetchall nokeep

$ fetchmail -V
This is fetchmail release 5.9.11+SSL+NLS
<----SNIP---->
Version is the latest (well, yesterday there was a new one
released ...). I cannot see this problem mentioned in the changelog
and IIRC it was already reported, but I cannot find it again.
So is it a known problem? Do I only use some special config setting
to workaround? Is there some other fix known?

It should be easily reproducable, just take these two mailadresses
above and find a MTA which accepts them as FROM: (my ISP uses Qmail)
and send a message to your POP account...

However, if you're getting this on your system then you can demonstrate this with "fetchmail -v" (or maybe "-v -v"). While I'm sure people could do as you suggest, you're more likely to get people helping you if you demonstrate the problem first :-)

   Please don't CC me on anything sent to mailing lists or send
       me email directly unless it's a privacy issue, thanks.
