I've been successfully running Fetchmail for some years now but recently had a
problem that I wondered if others had experienced.
I noticed that email collection had stopped and checked the log to discover
that one of the servers it was set to collect from was down. So:-
Fetchmail quits if even only one server is down.
This makes no sense to me as all the other server were functioning perfectly,
but Fetchmail simply gave up because it couldn't find one of them (actually the
last one specified in .fetchmailrc).
I then changed 'poll' to 'skip' which (according to the docs) should make
Fetchmail ignore that entry, but it made NO difference. So:-
Fetchmail attempts DNS lookups for ALL server before noticing 'skip'.
Is it just me that thinks this is back to front. If 'skip' is being used to
make Fetchmail ignore servers that might temporarily be down (as suggested in
the docs), then it certainly shouldn't attempt a DNS lookup first which then
causes the whole process to fail due to the first problem mentioned above.
Are these known problems? Is there some configuration of which I am not aware
that allows Fetchmail to competently handle these problems?
