Yes, it does help.
It builds, links and fetchmail --version seems to work. I haven't
exercised it more than that yet...

-DBIND_8_COMPAT appears to be the right solution - additional linker
flags aren't necessary.
Yup - peeking at Postfix source code, it does use this on all Darwin
systems and is happy with that. This flag might also switch some symbol
mappings so that either the rest of autoconf figures out -lresolv is
needed or -lresolv is no more needed.
