Checksums provide one nice feature.  They tell you if a message has been
mangled, in particular by mail transport.  In this wonderful world of
reliable streams, we ought not need such protection.  Nevertheless it
is nice to know if someone's been monkeying with your mail, so that
offending parties could be shot.

However, I am of an open mind still as to what level such checksums
could be done, not being thoroughly familiar with PEM.
