I agree that these rules should be clarified.  I'd point out, however,
that the issue of line breaks is easy, since there is now an easy way to
tell whether or not one part of a multipart object is supposed to end
with a line break.  However, the use of this mechanism for richtext
should be made explicit, as should all the other matters you mention.
