Keith,
I propose that in the 822ext group that we limit our discussion to UA-level
acks (read acks) and to the format of ack messages in general, leaving a
placeholder for transport level acks in the ack message format. MTA-level
acks can be discussed in smtpext or elsewhere. I don't want to implement
MTA-level acks using UA-private data.
The discussions that revolved around if delivery notifications should reside
in SMTP extensions or 822 extensions was one of the areas that generated a
lot of debate, and no resolution. For this reason, I believe that all the
ack related discussions should be moved to the ietf-ack list and separated
as per Dave's earlier recommendations. If, at a later date, it is determined
that another forum is appropriate for a particular class of ack's (SMTP for
example), then at that time that part of the discussion could move.
