   Is it possible to converge the X12/EDIFACT stuff with the output
   of the PEM crew, so we only have to do this *ONCE* and cover
   everybody?  Alternatively, if the PEM scheme provides sufficient
   functionality, should there be a switch variable someplace that
   allows the option of using the PEM or EDIFACT scheme?

Not really.  The X12/EDIFACT stuff is designed to be independant of
transprot mechanism.  It really has an existance that is independent
of e-mail.
