we didn't have an open relay.  the ORBS people forced us to take away
valuable functionality from our users, with no purpose whatsoever.

meanwhile, the spammers keep spamming. ORBS hasn't even made a dent.

that's what I meant by naivete - a solution that forces everyone to
incur costs and give up useful functionality without accomplishing
anything useful.
