RE: [Asrg] NNTP IS Pull, deal with it

I implemented the NNTP protocols for my web browser. Don't try to
pull the authority crap.

I think it is very clear what your game is here.

NNTP for a web browser sounds like the equivalent of adding support
for POP or IMAP to a web browser instead of anything related to a
server-to-server protocol. The protocols used by mail MUAs and by
newsreaders are more or less "pull." However, those user-interface
protocols are quite distinct in goals and nature from the protocols
that move messages among MTAs and netnews servers. The latter remarkably
similar (if you squint) "push" protocols are SMTP and NNTP IHAVE.

Everyone agrees authentication is a good thing for protocols used
between user agents and servers for netnews and email. SMTP-AUTH was
long overdue for SMTP used as the MUA-MTA protocol when SMTP-AUTH
finally appeared. The worst netnews spam problems I've heard of in
years (Hipcrime's efforts) involve failures of or lack of authentication
between newsreaders and servers.
