Unless...

Unless you can figure out a way to uncompromise ~10e8 systems *and keep
them that way*.  Because as long as those systems are out there, spammers
have the ability to make other people pay for their spam at will.

And AFAIK, nobody has a viable solution to that problem.

I disagree.  Rich, and others who maintain this conviction, seem to be
blind to the gap between "apply the scheme to those who sign up for
the scheme" and "apply the scheme to everyone in general from the top,
down, as if there was a top that could enforce application of the
scheme"

The first is possible, the second is not.  Tainting discussion of the
first by pointing out the difficulties with the second is
nonproductive.
