You are missing something. It is an attempt at fixing the limitation
of having a single granularity for a whole zone, which is not
sufficient.
The rough draft I put together and David's approach are similar, and
need more thought. But we need something that is more flexible than a
single granularity.
Quite right, but you have to minimize ALL lookups, not just ones that
find an entry.
