RE: Real work items (Was: DNS etc.)

The client needs  to go to DNS to get the MX records anyway.
So why not have it "get more" information
about the server itself.

Because the senders whose mail we don't want won't bother.  Contrary to a
rule #3 about spammers, spammers aren't stupid.

Also, from a purely bandwidth viewpoint, what difference does it make?  I
think roughly the same number of bits will pass in both directions regardless
of which side is doing the querying.  As for processor time, isn't there a
rule suggesting that the network will always be slower than the CPU?
