Subscribers might've noticed a slight, or some would say blatant, comedic
stance I'm taking. The stuff you folks are posting to this list is just so
absurd it's begging for a comedian's touch. I mean, you're all arguing over
piddly details and the real work hasn't even started yet:
"Authentication vs Authorization." These words have strict dictionary
defenitions. You're not going to rewrite Miriam-Webster's just because your
pet protocol / pet project / yearly salary depends on it. Big companies have
tried. [1]
"Potential Work Item." It was just that. I wasn't asking for a bunch of
work, just opinions as to wether this should be a work item. Instead I got
conspiracy theories about the DNS working group, and conspiracy theories
about certain companies whose fiscal survival depends on the DNS. I at least
got a feeling of "yes, it should be an item when we need it," even though it
took 48 hours to determine that from reading the whole thread. No wonder
people think we'd take too long.
"Three major areas of concentration." OK, so I didn't help here. I thought
Meng was asking for input and I gave it. Again I got conspiracy theories
about certain entities whose fiscal survival depends on but one of the
aforementioned areas.
"[Back to Normal]" This was completely my fault and I regret starting this.
Meng, sorry. OK? At least I can laugh at myself. I mean really, I wasn't
much better early on either.
You're going to see more laughing from me and more absurdities pointed out.
While I might not have been around as long as most of my fellow geeks, I've
been on the "front line" dealing with Joe Sixpack for the past ten years.
And Joe Sixpack thinks you're all a riot, and he'd write you saying so if his
Delete key wasn't broken from pressing it too many times. Oh, and he says:
"Go to your local comedy club more often. Don't forget to tip your waitress
- she's putting the salt on your glass for YOUR margarita."[2]
But before you killfile me for being too absurd, ask yourself these
questions:
Who dismisses levity as irresponsibility?
Who excludes comedy from the debate?
Be careful how you answer. You might learn something.
