I am trying to find this in the RFC 2476. Section 8.1 states that the
"Sender" field may be added, but I can't find anything in the RFC that
permits the MSA to change the RFC2821 MAIL FROM address
Hmm...
After a second reading, section 8 seems to state that the message can be
modified in any way to comply with policy so you are right after all. I
guess this would make my comments to John in the previous message untrue
:( What confuses me is section 5.1 which recommends that MSAs reject a
message with illegal syntax, I wonder what is done in practice.
I am wondering if MSAs today actually do this (I know of at least one
that I used personally). In any case, we can add changes to the MSA to
enforce a valid bounce address and possible substitution to the list of
changes for RFC2821 MAIL FROM checking.
