 Hello William,

I launched this message on UserID naming conventions to add 'some'
type of structure to the existing UserID 'packet' field. The MUA -
User I/F would not be required to 'conform', but an intelligent
client for corp. use, might want more structure (with some guidlines).
I would NOT create a new UserID Field. My initial objective here, is
to measure the level of interest in adding additional convenstions.

If there is interest, I'll submit a more detailed explanation.

I would be intrested in seeing this advanced.

I would like to see PGP give the users options to enter different types of
UserID's with some built in format validity checking.

There should also be a UserID type field though I imagine that this would
cause compatibility problems with previous versions. There may be a way
this could be added without adversely effecting backward compatiability.
Could use the first 2 bytes of the UserID field and assign them as a type
field but limit their values to non-typeable values (values 00x-0Fx are
not likely to be found in a current userid).

I would have killed to have this implemented in the PGP key format when I
was doing my PGP integration work. Would have saved alot of jumping
through hoops for matching e-mail addresses to keys in my e-mail
applications.
