Re: The armour issue

Paul - thanks for that post. Input like yours - from companies deciding
which standards to implement - is EXACTLY what we need in this debate.
We can sit around all day discussing the technical and political issues.
If the standard is not implemented, these discussions will be entirely
pointless.

As Adam says: S/MIME is racing ahead. Never mind completing at the same
time; Open PGP needs a good head start if we are going to overcome the
enormous odds we have against us (such as the 25 million installed base
of Netscape and Microsoft software). (Please flame me directly if you
must; this group cannot afford any more time to be wasted).

Ian Grigg's point in favour of armour is that clearsigned documents are
useful. Fair enough; Ian can buy/write an application which includes
this functionality. It does not need to be a MUST. As Adam just said, it
would be simple to do the same with MIME.

On Adam's other points: MIME SHOULD, shelve 32-bit cleanup for OP2,
define subpacket 10 as reserved for future use.

Can we move forward, *please*?

Ian.
