A known log format is fine as a starting point. However there seem to be

That's exactly what I meant - we have to specify a standard logging
format for this (OPES specific) information. I didn't mean that the
current standard logging formats are sufficient.
The point is that - before starting to discuss complex protocols and
interfaces for exchanging all sort of accounting information - we
should carefully think what is really required. Having a properly
defined logging format for all the interesting information might be
enough. Use this logging format, ship the standard log files to
accounting machines using existing protocols (e.g. secure file
transfer etc.) and do the accounting by evaluating the log files using
local policies. It might turn out that we want to have a way to tell
the boxes what information to log and what to ship, but this could be
added later.
