While there may be general agreement that backscatter is a Bad thing, the
discussions of the Sieve ereject extension showed rather conclusively that
there are wide range of opinions regarding how far you should go in avoiding
backscatter.
but automated blacklisting for backscatter worries me a bit...)
The recommended use of this list seems to be to only apply such blacklisting to
notifications. WHile that can still be a problem, it's far less of one than a
badly run blacklist that blocks all messages, and there are no shortage of
those.
