One of the major problems with computer-related tools, today, is not that
they under-estimate the user's ability but that they over-demand the user's
effort.
Long ago, we got away from automobiles with hand-cranks to start the
engine, spark arrestors, and other assorted controls over internals. Most
people simply want a car to work; they do not want to be automobile mechanics.
By contrast, today's PCs require that each user be a system administrator.
Given an industry that is at least 20 years old, this is a situation that
all of us in the field should be deeply embarrassed about.
