Subject: Last Call: draft-klensin-norm-ref (Handling
Normative References for Standards Track Documents) to BCP
The IESG has received a request from an individual submitter
to consider
the following document:
- 'Handling Normative References for Standards Track Documents '
<draft-klensin-norm-ref-03.txt> as a BCP
The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits
final comments on this action. Please send substantive
comments to the
ietf(_at_)ietf(_dot_)org mailing lists by 2007-03-16. Exceptionally,
comments may be sent to iesg(_at_)ietf(_dot_)org instead. In either case,
please
retain the beginning of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.
I support publishing this document as a BCP. It became clear to me
during a recent IESG document review that more than what is specified in
RFC 3967 is needed. The approach described in this document seems to
meet that need. It strikes a sensible balance between the need to
recognize downrefs and the need to limit their impact on document
progression.
