Goal: easier cpu parsable opt out tags

2004-02-29 20:29:39

Going through my email caught by my spam filter I noticed that about 50%
of the spam I am getting in the last week or two has an opt-out link that
works (or seems to). Having to read the stupid stuff first to find the
opt-out link sucks.

I did not see this in the goal/idea/whatever lists. So I suggest adding:

- A header (or what ever they will be called) tag in a defined format that
includes the recipients email address the sender used. Enabling MUAs to have a
'find the opt out tag and remove me from this list' button.

- A mini protocol between the MUA and the opt-out sites that allow
a user to opt-out in a standard way.

This could work for legal spam (Gee I hated to say legal and spam) and mailing list.
