Yep. Technically, each month is a separate MHonArc archive.
The mhonarc.org archives (i.e. the mharc package) provides a
work-around by leveraging Namazu. At the end of each message
body, you will see the link '[More with this subject...]'.
This executes a search for messages with the same subject for
the entire list archive so month boundaries are no longer a
problem.
It is far from perfect, but it is better than nothing.
Is there any way of making MHonArc look in several .mhonarc.db
-files to get threading across month boundaries work?
No. This is a known limitation, and one of the artifacts of MHonArc's
initial Perl 4 heritage. To do it correctly would require a rewrite
of MHonArc. I have thought of some possible hacks for the existing
code base, but I do not know if it is worth the effort.
