Just a general comment from an ordinary user.

In cases where something has been superceeded, certainly I think it is a
wise idea to get rid of the old version.

The general idea/trend of unbundling components annoys me however.  I hate
to have to scrounge for things that should have been included in the same
distribution with package XXX (where XXX is anything useful you might get
off the net).

(Two obvious examples... I was annoyed to have to go net-scrounging when
I first built sendmail and found out that I needed BSD libdb, and somewhat
less annoyed... although still annoyed...that the `diald' package is dis-
tributed separately from ppp-2.2.0e.  I can well understand why these
things are all separate packages, but that doesn't make the task of getting
a _complete_ and useful system up and running any less painful.)
