AM_PROG_AR is only in newer versions of automake. I'm using 1.10 and
I get an error. I'm personally neutral about upgrading to 1.12 ...
although I see that it looks like automake 1.10 was released in 2006,
so that IS kinda old (looks like 1.13 was just released). We can put
a version number in the AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE macro to indicate our minimum
required version of automake. But do you think we should run this by
nmh-workers?
Ya, I just noticed that when I went to build on my Macbook. I was just
starting to peer into the autoconf docs to see what could be done. Both
my Mac's (10.8.0 aand 11.4.2 â?? I have given up trying to figure out
how those correspond to kittycat names) have automake 1.10; everything
else seems to be running 1.12.
Since this only bites developers building from git I think I'll just
bump the minimum required automake version and update my Macs.
That's fine with me; like I said, 1.10 is kinda old. Anyone else care?
If you just build from releases this won't affect you.
