It's in dictionaries. Maybe not commonly used, esp. on our
side of the pond.
It's just ... when I see -cat, I'd think that means "run the output
through cat(1)".
I would expect a proc to be used for that purpose.

Yes. If -cat/-nocat, -dog could be a synonym for -nocat.
