Trusted document dating is a somewhat separate issue.  It's an
important concept and vitally necessary in other contexts.  For the
issue at hand, I think it's overkill.  What all parties need to know
is whether they are talking about the same document they were talking
about before or whether a different document has entered into the
dialog.
