Other scenarios can be constructed where the issue is more one of document dating. As far as I know the only general solution to these problems is to make use of a trusted third party to register definitive versions of documents and keep track of when they were written.
I recall seeing schemes where the relative ordering of documents can be established and hence, assuming that most players are honest and that documents occur frequently enough, dates may be verified. -Ray
