I understand your criteria in personally opting for EDE3 vs.
EDE2, but again, disagree on the principles involved in selecting an
appropriate standard. If there is hardware available for EDE2, then
it is likely to do well with that mode but slow down terribly for
EDE3. If there is not a quantatively supported justification for
going to EDE3 vs. EDE2, I've give the nod to EDE2 to avoid penalizing
those who may have hardware. Also, I personally would not bother
with either option if I have software and have to pay a factor of
three performance penalty.
