Personally, my digital signature IS FAR harder to forge than my 'wet ink'
one. I have a hard enough time getting two 'ink' signatures to look the
same as it is yet they are all cheerfully accepted..
My digital signature is reproducible by me with ease... Now most of the
use of my ink signature is done face to face with the person I am doing the
transaction with. But I still do alot of cheque through the post payments.
Now a document I sign is very much like a cheque. It has info that only I
can generate, and it also has a part that identifies it as an authorised
document through the CA's signature on the certificate. (Like the fine
printing on my bank cheques thats supposed to be hard to forge).
So the current argument boils down to one of CA integrity, do you trust
your bank and the govenment with your money?
At this early stage, until we have some real use, this argument is only
a philisophical one. Yes there will be rogues out there, but there always
will be.
Pete.
