include the info you would like to see in the telephone book next year
when it is reprinted. Don't hold your breath. The analogy isn't

Either you haven't looked in the white pages lately, or NYNEX is not
operating the same way as Ameritec or USWest, but the white page that I
am familiar with DO allow a fair degree of flexibility in them and even
a certain amount of advertising. I really don't expect any directory
service to tell me what my name is going to be. I know that they tried
when I ordered a phone, but I prevailed and got what I wanted. They
asked for my SSN (now there's a UID for you) as well, even telling me
the utilities commission gave them the right to do that, but I didn't
give them my SSN and I do have a phone. These phone companies (CCITT)
gave us the wonder of X.500 and now that we try to use it, they are
nervous about what they have loosed on the world. They will try to tell
you what to do, but if you take that from them, then you deserve what
you get.
