I believe the serial number Tom was referring to was the serialNumber attribute in X.520 (associated with devices etc. in X.521), not the certificateSerialNumber field in the certificate. I don't think using it as an employee ID meets the definition of silly (at least as compared to X.400 security fields:-). / Rich
