You really don't deserve a reply, because you have *NOT* read the RFCs. If
you had read them, particular RFC 1422, you would not have asked this
question. Certainly you would not be talking about "key rings", which is a
concept that is never mentioned in PEM. (Are you sure you aren't asking
about PGP?) Go get RFCs 1421, 1422, 1423, and 1424; read them
*completely*; and then ask your questions.
3. In what direction is PEM heading now? I have heard that DES
can be cracked fairly easily if you have the right equipment. If this is
true, does anyone have any sources for this information. Are
developers still planning to use DES to encrypt messages and their
digests or are they looking at other methods (such as ideakey)?
Get the FAQ on Modern Cryptography, written by Paul Fahn, available by
anonymous ftp from rsa.com, and as an Internet-Draft from your favorite
NIC.
