Steve, That is the crux of the argument given by Christian and Mike about the problem of adding new DISTINGUISHED attributes to directories. A non-distinguished attribute can be treated as a bundle of bits for storage, but a distinguished attribute needs to be searched upon and thus the matching rules need to be known to DSAs. Steve
